The Norsemen

The Norsemen sing out at numerous locations throughout the year.  We charter a bus for one of the Christmas concerts and for Sangerfest.  This is a great way to see the community -- both Scandinavian and the general community at large.

In fall 2007, we did a dual concert with a large chorus here in the area, which turned out to be a great success and lots of fun.

We will be hosting Sangerfest 2009, on June 25-27, which will be held at the Eugene Hilton.

Our typical schedule during the year:

  • Lief Erickson Dinner for the Sons of Norway lodge

  • Torsk Dinner -- we serve dinner and sing

 December

  • Monday evening performances at retirement centers

  • Christmas Party

  • Chorus Birthday Party -- dessert and recruitment

 April

  • Lapskaus Dinner

  • Annual Chorus Photograph at one of our Monday evening rehearsals

 May

  • Concert for the Lodge at the Syttende Mai (17th of May) Celebration

 June

  • Sangerfest
    (We often meet for dinner in Junction City after we sing)

 August

  • Scandinavian Festival in Junction City, Oregon, where we sing with the Thorsmen from Salem

  • Norsemen Picnic

Rehearsals

We have a great time at rehearsals.  Ed does a fantastic job of explaining the Norwegian and the musical arrangements.  We prepare extra songs that are not on the Sangerfest program and learn them all.  Some of the music is for Christmas, and some is general.  Most of the music is Norwegian.

Rehearsals are on Monday evenings, from 7:30 to 9:00 pm, beginning the week after Labor Day in September and ending in June, generally the week before Sangerfest.
